When considering the installation of a plugin solar kit, look for the place in your household with the most unimpeded sunshine hours. This can be your terrace or balcony, or a pergola, or a wall. We also have solutions for tile roofs or metal roofs.

In short: depending on your consumption, potentially all of it.

A plugin solar kit produces solar energy for self consumption at home. The energy it produces is used directly by your household appliances. This avoids you having to buy that energy from your power company, lowering your power bills.

Your savings are therefore determined by

• how much energy your kit produces
• how much you pay your power company per kWh, with all extra costs and taxes included

For example, if your kit produces 1.600 kWh per year and you pay €0,25/kWh to your power company, you save €400 per year (1.600 kWh x €0,25/kWh = €400). You can calculate how much you can save at your home address with our Savings Calculator or check the European Commission’s PV GIS.

How much the savings are on your overall electricity bill depends on how much you consume in total.

• If your yearly consumption is 1.500 kWh, then you’ll save over 100% of your power consumption.
• If you use 5.000 kWh, it will be just 32%.

The average household in Southern Europe consumes about 3.200 kWh/year. A 800 W plugin solar kit can save half of that.

In any case, some savings are better than no savings at all. Every kWh you can produce yourself is a kWh you don’t have to buy from the grid, saving you money every day.

Your solar kit’s production of electricity is almost never the exact same as the consumption of your household. If you consume more than you produce, then 100% of your production is used on the spot, maximizing the economic profitability of your kit as you take full advantage of the savings.

If you produce more than you consume, you have several options:

• Feed the surplus energy into the power grid. In Spain you can certify your kit with us, and get compensated for your surplus by your power company.
• Add storage with a smart meter, and store all excess energy during sunshine hours, to use it when the sun doesn't shine.
• Install a “zero discharge” device or “smart meter” on your distribution panel, that lowers your kit’s production and avoids any spillover of excess electricity to the power grid. This is the least attractive option, since you incur the cost of the smart meter and installation, and get no benefit from it.

If you feed a lot of energy to the power network, for example because you’re not at home during the day or use your home only sporadically, a storage system is probably the smartest solution. Most storage systems are modular, so you can start small and upgrade as you see the need for it.

In short: no.

Your solar kit produces electricity depending on the varying amount of sunshine your solar panels are exposed to. Starting from zero at night, during the morning solar production increases and peaks at around noon, only to slowly decrease again until the sun goes down in the evening. Your kit’s energy production curve follows the same bell curve pattern.

Keep in mind that any solar panel’s power output is measured in Wp (Watt peak), a theoretical measurement unit that indicates the maximum (peak) output of a panel under perfect testing conditions. In real life these conditions can be met just for a limited amount of time in ideal conditions (south facing, 30 degrees installation).

In short: much easier than you might think.

A plugin solar kit generates electricity from the sun with solar panels. The micro inverter converts the panels’ DC power into AC power used in your household. A special cable connects the micro inverter to a normal Schuko plug in your home, feeding your kit’s power into your household’s power circuit.

That circuit is like a system of canals. At different points there are devices that consume energy (your fridge, lamps and other devices). The sum of that energy consumption is what at the end of the canal is fed from your power company into your household. Your power meter counts how much that power is at any time.

If you now connect a plugin solar kit to your canal, that kit feeds solar power into the network. Due to a slightly higher voltage, your devices use your solar power first. If you have several power circuits at home, these all meet at the distribution panel, which in turn is connected to your power meter and the grid. If there is excess power in the circuit your kit is connected to, it will spill over first to your other circuits that are demanding energy.

Beware that this only works in a single phase home network. If your network is triphase, a kit works in one phase only. You can connect different solar kits to each of your three phases.

The solar power then flows through your existing wires to the other sockets of your home, where your connected appliances consume your solar kit’s electricity. • Our top-selling Flat mount is suitable for any flat surface, like a terrace, garden, carport or flat roof. The mount gives the panel a 20° angle.
• Our Wall mount allows you to easily fix a solar panel in horizontal orientation to any wall, with an angle of up to 60°.
• Our latest addition, the Balcony mount, allows you to fix high performance solar panels safely to your balcony railing. You can set the angle of your panels to up to 60°. Make sure you use a solid railing, to EU standards, since solar panels weigh 20-25 kg each and the mount structure an additional 3-5 kg. If your railing can’t handle this weight, maybe a City kit is better suited.
• For tile roofs, we have 2 types of mount structure. If you can move your tiles, the Tile Roof with Tile Hook mount is the safest solution. If you can’t move your tiles, the Tile Roof - Bolted mount is your best option.
• For metal roofs, we also have 2 solutions. If your metal roof already has an angle of 20 degrees or more, choose the Metal Roof - No Angle mount. If your metal roof has a lower or no angle, the Metal Roof with Angle mount is your best option.

And for everybody that wants another type of installation, we also sell all our solar kits as Basic, or without mount. In this version there is no mount structure included in your solar kit, saving you money. You will have to install your solar panels safely on a pre-existing structure on your own mount solution.

Solar kits are an easy way to install solar panels in your home. They are subject to the same rules and regulations like any other solar installation. In most European countries for installations with an output of up to 800 W (700 W in Portugal), self installation is possible and exempt from registration or certification requirements. Output power is determined by your inverter, not by the amount of solar panels. These are called “plugin solar kits”. We offer our Performance and City kits in this category.

Over 800 W you generally need an electrician or installer to certify the installation. You can buy a bigger solar kit, like our Plus 2000 or Plus 2400, and have your installer certify it. In Spain we offer this service. This way you get the same top notch component quality like in our smaller kits at the most affordable price on the market.

If you want to avoid local regulations, in many cases installing a smart meter to not feed any surplus energy into the grid is a great solution. Most of our storage systems offer one.

In short: 30 years at least.

The lifetime of a solar kit is determined by its 2 key components: the solar panels and the micro inverter.

High quality solar panel manufacturers generally guarantee production for 30 years. This means that your panels will produce electricity for at least that time according to the technical data sheet provided by the manufacturer. Likely they will do so a lot longer and produce more.

Micro inverters usually come with a 10 to 12 years warranty by the manufacturer. Also in this case it’s likely they will work a lot longer. A micro inverter is easy to swap out should this be required, to extend the lifespan of your kit for as long as the panels produce.

They say only true love lasts forever, but plugin solar kits can also give you a lot of love for a long time.

In short: as easy as a plugin solar kit.

There are different types of storage systems, can be divided into these main categories:

• Storage for already installed plugin solar kits. If you already have a plugin solar kit with solar panels and a micro inverter installed, you can add a storage system between your solar panels and the micro inverter. These systems are generally very easy to install, and in some cases (like the Saturn C B2500) even expandable in a modular way.
• All-in-one storage systems. If you want to add storage to your first plugin solar kit, an all-in-one solution is best. These systems combine batteries, controllers and micro inverters into a single system. You plug the solar panels in on one side, and connect the system straight to your home socket on the other.
• Standalone storage systems. Recently a third category of storage systems has launched, that doesn’t need a direct connection to your solar panels or plugin solar kit. These independent storage systems connect to any household plug, and store all surplus power your solar kit produces. They charge and discharge through your home’s electricity network, and can also be charged with grid energy if you want to top up in low-cost times or have no solar installed at all.

In short: with a hybrid storage system, yes.

Most storage systems that have launched in recent months include “hybrid” charging. This means that the storage system can not only discharge into the home’s power network, but also charge from it. This functionality allows you to top up your battery with power from the grid. This makes sense if your power tariff has very cheap prices in some dayparts, when topping up costs little, and use that power in the more expensive dayparts.

In short: this depends on your consumption levels.

Storage needs can be looked at from several sides:

• Solar kit production. If you look at how much your solar kit produces during an entire day, and how much you consume on the spot, the rest is what you will have to store. For example, if your Plus 2000 kit produces 8 kWh per day but during the day you only use 3 kWh, then you need at least 5 kWh of storage for your surplus, to use it when the sun doesn’t shine.
• Household demand. If you know how much you consume per day at home after subtracting the immediate consumption of your solar kit’s production, you know what you're missing. A part of that can be covered by storing your solar kit’s surplus. The rest can be covered by charging in low-cost hours from the grid. For example, if you consume 10 kWh per day in the above example, you will need 2 kWh to charge from the grid on top of the 5 kWh mentioned above.

And remember, that when it comes to batteries, you should never discharge below 10% and never charge over 90%. This means that you can only use 80% of any battery capacity. This would mean that in the above scenario of 7 kWh of required storage, you will need a storage system of 9 kWh, whose 80%-capacity of 7,2 kWh covers your needs.

In short: Some of them do.

Several storage systems that have launched recently have an “AC outlet”, also known as “emergency outlet” or “anti-blackout”. This is a Schuko socket that delivers electricity when the network goes down. These systems can also be used in homes that are not grid connected.

During power outages, like the “apagón” in Spain, Portugal and parts of France in April 2025, these systems provide critical base power to their customers, literally “keeping the lights on”. With sufficient storage capacity, and daily recharge with your solar kit, you can easily get through power outages also for longer periods of time.

In short: yes it can.

For any storage system to work effectively, or be “intelligent” as sometimes labelled, you need a smart meter. This device measures the flow of electricity from the grid to your home.

If you consume from the grid, it will tell your storage system to feed in more, trying to reduce or eliminate grid consumption.

If you feed surplus energy into the grid, it will tell your storage system to store that surplus energy. These changes happen in real time in fractions of a second, and maximize the self consumption of your solar energy. Since you don’t feed into the grid you’re also not subject to certification or registration requirements in many countries.

n short: yes it has to.

A balcony railing must be designed to hold the weight of a person, preventing it from falling off a balcony. That’s what all building codes in Europe mandate in one way or the other. A plugin solar kit weighs between 15 kg (City 800) and 60 kg (Performance 800). In any case this is less than the weight of an adult person, and your balcony railing must be able to hold it.

If you have doubts about the solidity of your balcony railing, consider replacing it. Your building code might require you to do so anyway.

In short: yes, we wouldn’t be selling them otherwise.

Plugin solar kits are absolutely safe and comply with all safety norms and regulations. We’re not aware of a single incident with a plugin solar kit anywhere in Europe. Key advantages of plugin solar kits are:

• Installation can be done easily by one or two people.
• Kits include all necessary accessories to install them safely. All you need are normal tools like a wrench or screwdriver.
• All components of our kits are approved for use in European markets, made by top quality manufacturers and have passed all certification requirements.
• Our solar panels are extremely sturdy and can resist extreme temperatures and severe weather conditions.

In short: yes.

You need a “plug” to “plugin” your solar kit. Your kit must be connected to your household’s power network to feed its power into it. This requires a cable to connect the micro inverter to your home. Robinsun kits include the appropriate cable for your kit with a Schuko plug, the de facto standard in Europe.

Please make sure that you use a safe outdoor plug to connect your kit. We recommend connecting the solar kit directly to a socket, without the use of other extension cables. Most kits offer various lengths of cables should you need a longer one.

Should you not have a power socket available, any electrician or handyman can install one for you easily and quickly.

In short: south facing, with a 30 degrees inclination.

Plugin solar kits generate electricity by exposing solar panels to solar radiation. The longer you expose the panel to direct sunshine, the more electricity it produces. A panel's orientation (or azimuth) directly affects the amount of sun exposure the panel receives. In the northern hemisphere:

• A southern orientation will give you the longest sunshine exposure during the day, making your kit produce the most amount of electricity.
• An eastern orientation will generate power earlier in the mornings, but stop around lunchtime.
• A western orientation will not start until lunchtime, but will last until the very end of the day.

Other factors influencing the amount of electricity your plugin solar kit produces are:

• The inclination (or slope) of the panels. In Europe a 30-35 degree inclination is generally best.
• An operating temperature of 25° degrees Celsius is the ideal production temperature for solar panels, although the panels can operate even at extreme temperatures between -40 and +85 degrees Celsius, just producing less efficiently.
• The amount of sunshine hours is also key. The presence of clouds or shade can reduce electricity production, but do not eliminate it. Even on a cloudy day your solar kit will produce for you.

In short: enough space to install the kit.

Some of our customers that want to install a kit on their balcony have limited space available. The panel’s dimensions are the delimiting factor. Depending on the kit you choose, check the panel dimensions and the space you have available for your installation.

Should you have several smaller spaces available, you can also install 2 kits of one panel each. Make sure your railing is in good conditions and robust enough to hold your kit safely.

You just need a few standard tools, like a wrench or screwdriver. If you have ever set up a simple piece of furniture, and plugged in a microwave or coffee maker, you most certainly will manage to install a plugin solar kit easily.

For bigger solar kits, like our Plus range, while you can physically install the kit yourself, you do need a dedicated line to your electrical panel and a breaker for it. Also, check what local regulations apply.

If you’re not at home, make sure somebody else is there. The shipment company will alert you about the delivery date. You can reach out to them to try to agree on the time frame that is best for you, some carriers offer this service.

Make sure to provide a national mobile phone number, so that the transport company can call you about your delivery. Foreign phone numbers are not accepted by the transport companies.

If you're not home, the carrier might drop your kit at an alternative location or leave it with your neighbor or doorman and you will have to pick it up there. Since the solar panels of your kit are big and heavy, it is convenient to have the carrier deliver it to your doorstep when you are at home.

We strongly recommend coordinating the delivery directly with the transport company as soon as you get the first message from them.

In short: No we cannot.

We can guarantee the fulfillment of your order in 2 working days, unless otherwise indicated on our website. During the checkout process you will find an estimated delivery time range. The vast majority of orders are delivered faster than than. But we cannot guarantee this. Deliveries can take longer in remote areas, to islands, small dwellings or in peak periods (holidays, summer, Black Friday/Cyber Monday).

Deliveries can also run into problems that you can avoid easily, such as incomplete or incorrect address data or foreign phone numbers.

Once shipped, you will receive a message with a tracking code. If you have any special requirements for your shipment, like a specific delivery date, contact the carrier. Robinsun does not ship with its own fleet. If you contact us, we will redirect you to the carrier, since it is ultimately them who deliver. Should there be any issues with a carrier we are of course always happy to mediate or help.

In short: react immediately.

If your kit shows signs of damage when it gets delivered, you should first of all take pictures of all items you receive. You can not accept the delivery if some packages are evidently damaged. Once you accept the delivery, the carrier is off the hook. If you’re not sure if all items are in good condition, you can sign the receipt and add “pending content verification” on it. This usually gives you a few days time to inspect the content. But beware that this is usually 24h or 48h maximum, not more. And not all carriers accept this.

Also take into account that we package all components for maximum safety. A rough packaging doesn’t necessarily mean that the content is damaged. We recommend you open each box, inspect the content, and if there is an evident breakage contact us immediately. Remember that without pictures and proof we cannot open a claim with the carrier, and cannot help you with your damaged kit.

In short: No need to panic, it will arrive.

Sometimes carriers deliver packages of a solar kit separately. The solar panels are quite big and heavy and don’t fit every delivery van. They might bring smaller packages with one vehicle and the bigger ones in another. This can take up to 2-3 days between deliveries sometimes. The easiest solution is to call the carrier and ask where the remaining parcels are.

In short: if you don’t have a way to get the kit to work, ask for support.

Should this not help, you can reach out to the manufacturer of the defective device or us. In any case, you will be asked about

• Pictures describing the incident
• Serial numbers of the devices involved
• A description of the malfunction, so that a support engineer can reproduce the error and understand your situation.

In short: check your local recycling regulations.

Plugin solar kits generate clean energy and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, in order for them to be fully sustainable, it is crucial to dispose of them correctly once their life cycle is over. Solar panels contain precious components that are in high demand, and will likely be accepted for recycling by your local recycling point without any issues.

The components of our kits have a production warranty of up to 30 years. Nonetheless, when the day comes, it is very important to dispose of them correctly. Up to 90% of a solar panel’s components can be recycled. That’s why the EU directive 2012/19 makes it mandatory for solar panels to be recycled at the end of their lifecycle. This is no different to your other home appliances, such as microwaves, fridges or televisions.

Thus, once a component of your plugin solar kit reaches the end of its life cycle, you can replace it with a new one and dispose of the old one. Some EU countries (such as Spain and France) recycle electronics for free, while other countries will require you to pay a small fee for the recycling of your electronics (for example, in Italy this fee is €10).
