Robinsun achieves climate impact certification of its plugin solar kits
That plugin solar kits have a beneficial effect in the fight against climate change is undeniable. We have been calculating the benefits of our kits since we launched, both in terms of savings on our customers' power bills and in CO2 saved by producing your own solar energy. Now we are very proud to announce the recent certification of these calculations we obtained, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. This certification, granted by Dutch certification company Impact Forecast BV, an independent and neutral third-party company, marks a significant milestone in Robinsun's journey toward reducing our customers’ carbon emissions and contributing to a greener future. Introducing EIT Climate-KIC
This certification journey starts with meeting EIT Climate-KIC, Europe's largest public-private partnership focused on climate innovation. It is a dynamic community that connects individuals and organizations devoted to combating climate change. It fosters collaboration and innovation, supporting initiatives that aim to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change.
By being part of this community since 2024, Robinsun has gained access to a large network of experts, resources, and funding opportunities that enable us to enhance our environmental initiatives. EIT Climate-KIC's support has enabled Robinsun to undertake the thorough certification process with Impact Forecast.
The role of Impact Forecast
Impact Forecast is a highly respected organization known for its rigorous evaluation of carbon emissions. As an independent company, it specializes in assessing the environmental impact of various businesses, providing impartial and accurate assessments of their carbon footprints. By collaborating with Impact Forecast, Robinsun has ensured that its carbon reduction efforts are not only credible but also align with global standards.
Impact Forecast's evaluations are critical in holding companies accountable for their environmental impact. The certification process involves a detailed assessment of the company's operations, identifying areas where carbon emissions can be reduced, and calculating the potential impact of these reductions. This certification is not just a stamp of approval; it is a testament to Robinsun's dedication to implementing effective and sustainable practices, and being measured by third party auditors to the most rigorous standards in climate impact certification.
Understanding Robinsun's carbon reduction calculation
The calculation uses our Performance 800 plugin solar kit of 2 solar panels (800 W) in Spain, with the characteristics of the type sold in Q2/2024. The impact in carbon footprint is calculated per year for one installed plugin solar kit. The measurement is divided into 4 parts, extraction, transport, use and recycling where the former two produce CO2 and the latter two reduce it.
Extraction: It measures the impact of a plugin solar kit over a 30 year life span. Two panels of 1,94 square meters each divided by 30 years equals 0,13 m2. One cable of 5 meters divided by 30 years equals 0,17 m. One micro inverter divided by 15 years equals 0,07. According to Impact Forecast, the carbon emission for each component is as follows.
Carbon emission |
Unit per year |
Total emission per year |
|
PV cell |
412,9 per m2 |
0,13 m2 |
53,68 |
Electric cord |
0,1551 per m |
0,17 m |
0,002637 |
Micro inverters |
7,64 per per MI |
0,07 MI |
0,5348 |
Transport: The impact of transport is measured over the 30 years life span. Components from Asia (Shenzhen, China) to Europe (Rotterdam, Netherlands) by sea is 20,600 km. A kit weighs on average 50 kg. Delivering a solar kit from Madrid to an average destination in Spain is 300 km.
Carbon emission |
Freight transport |
Total emission per year |

Container ship |
0,00478 per tkm |
34333 kgkm |
0,164 |
Truck & trailer 24 tons net |
0,08871 per tkm |
500 kgkm |

Use: It applies the average production of a 800 W solar kit, measured using PV GIS, for an average location in Spain during a year. South-facing installations (the norm for our customers) with a 20 degree angle (popular model) is used. Then, considering the electricity mix for consumption in Spain, the calculation is as follows.
Carbon emission |
Capacity |
Total emission per year |
|
Electricity Spain consumption |
0,07869 per MJ |
1.650 kWh |
-467,4 |
Recycling: The impact of recycling a plugin solar kit (2 solar panels, 1 micro inverter, cable) is calculated over a 30 years life span.
Carbon emission |

Total emission per year |
|
Scrap, collections & sorting |
0,03042 per kg |
1,7 kg |
0,05171 |
Adding up all the total emissions in each segment, the carbon footprint equivalent in CO2 is -412,9 kg per installed Robinsun 800 W solar kit per year. That is around 12.4 tons of less carbon emission over a 30 years time span. According to Open CO2 Net, a carbon footprint platform in Finland, 412,9 kg of carbon emission is equivalent to 2915,4 km of driving which is more than 4,5 times the driving distance from Madrid to Barcelona. According to the Environmental Protection Agency in the United States, the emission needs 1950 square meters of trees to be absorbed, equivalent to the size of 0,3 soccer field. While it may not seem substantial, we have to bear in mind that this continues for more than 30 years which will make a huge difference. Also, all the calculations are based on just one Robinsun Performance 800 plugin solar kit. Imagine how much carbon emission can we reduce together if 2 million families in Spain install a plugin solar kit at home, like the prevalence in Germany.
Conclusion
Robinsun's certification by Impact Forecast is a clear indication of our commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. We are not only serious about reducing carbon emissions but also dedicated to leading by example in the fight against climate change.
